The subject of inner healing requires much attention today, as there are so many women who are struggling with issues surrounding emotional insecurity. Insecurities brought on by trauma of past emotional wounds which have left them vulnerable and in many cases afraid to trust others. It is therefore wonderful to know that Jesus also died for the purpose of providing us with inner healing according to Isaiah 61:3, which says it is “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified.” Having the understanding that inner healing is accessible through Jesus Christ, we must then turn our attention to exploring the process through which this is achieved.
First of all, we will need to identify the areas in which healing is required and the source of pain associated with it. Having done this, we must bring all of these broken fragments honestly before God. We need to be honest with Him concerning how we feel about both the pain and the origin of it. After which, we must then allow Him to minister to those areas. Let’s look at an example, Tom wounded you because you trusted him and he betrayed that trust. There are wounds inflicted in the area of trust; leaving a void that needs to be repaired and filled once again with the ability to trust. The word ‘trust’ is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as: “Confidence; reliance or resting of the mind on the integrity, veracity, justice, friendship or other sound principle of another person; He or that which is the ground of confidence. “O Lord God, Thou art my trust from my youth.” (cf. Psalm 71) Charge received in confidence. Reward them well, if they observe their trust; that which is committed to one’s care; never violate a sacred trust; Confident opinion of any event.”
This is what you would need to tell the Lord: “Lord I am angry; disappointed and I feel discouraged because Tom betrayed my trust. As a result of this, I am afraid to trust anyone else and I am not able to forgive him Whenever I think of what he did to me I feel a spiritual drought as if I cannot pray effectively; I also feel lonely and somehow as if You have forsaken me. I know deep down inside that You have not, but the effects of what Tom did to me, seems to have crippled me and causes me to live in doubt; fear and distrust.” This might not be your struggle but the key thing here is being honest before the Lord about your feelings. It’s like taking your clothes off before Him in spite of all your imperfections because you trust Him. The Word of God tells us “The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” (cf. Proverbs 29:25) Honesty and trust are therefore the elements needed for beginning on the road to inner healing.. These two elements constitute open confession to God and a willingness to relinquish all rights to anything that would displease Him and hinder the intimacy of one’s relationship with Him. It brings you into a place where He is able to minister His healing balm to your wounds and pour His love into your soul.
Oh, how wonderful to come to your heavenly Father; lay at His feet naked; allowing Him to see all of your pain and to comfortably bask in His loving presence. This can only be made possible as you trust Him to minister and not to judge you, for that is the fear of many that are wounded; fear that the Lord will reject them because they feel imperfect. However, it is through the submission of these ideas to the Master that we can become perfected through Him. He will gently take everything which we bring to Him and breathe upon it, so that what is dying will be restored to fullness of life and that which needs to die will be taken with the utmost care to leave us in tact. Furthermore, according to Isaiah 61:3, He will give “… them a fair head-dress in place of dust, the oil of joy in place of the clothing of grief, praise in place of sorrow …” (cf. 1965 Bible In Basic English). In the Contemporary English Version the verse is rendered “flowers in place of their sorrow, olive oil in place of tears, and joyous praise in place of broken hearts.” This process may require diligence and a period of time, but the end result – inner healing; makes it worth the sacrifice of our time. To be able to live a life that is whole; complete and filled with the joy of the Lord, is worth any measure of sacrifice.
Secondly, we must dedicate ourselves to following the spiritual discipline of prayer, fasting and studying the Word; especially that which applies to healing; the redemptive work of Christ on the cross and who we are in Him. We are told in Colossians 1:12-14 that we can have assured confidence in what Jesus did on the Cross for us. The Apostle Paul in his writing to the Colossians penned these words: “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son: In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins:” This is the blessed assurance we have because we trust in the Lord our God for He who promised sealed His promises with the Blood of His Son whose obedience to the death on the Cross brought us into the Kingdom of heaven by translation. Inner healing – yes, inner healing is possible and you can be healed today if you would honestly go before the Lord and allow Him to pour in the wine and the oil of His anointing – the healing balm for your soul.
Father, I come to You today and I ask You to touch my sister; I lift her up to You and I take authority over every work of darkness that is binding her in the name of Jesus Christ. I loose her will to forgive all those that have hurt her or cause her any form of disappointment or discouragement. Touch her in the innermost part of her being – Lord, touch every broken fragment of her heart and breathe afresh upon her. Oh God encourage; heal and deliver her in the name Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Thank You Father for doing it; be Thou glorified Oh Lord; be though exalted in Jesus’ name.
